In the early 1920's, between the railroad track and Monseratte Street, many
large weeds grew. Mrs. J. E. Evans, distressed to know that all the train
passengers saw of her town was a weed patch, asked City Council to clear
the land of weeds. She then created beautiful flower beds filled with cannas,
zinnas and other annuals along with a fish pond to delight children. Shown
here is Mrs. Evans watching her daughter and two granddaughters with a friend,
enjoying an Easter Egg hunt.
