Reflections of The First National Bank

Located across the street from the First National Bank, the inset shows the First National Bank's original building built in 1902, with a collage of activities financed by the bank. The bank has promoted many endeavors in this community. The ethnic groups pictured are portraits of persons whom have served the community, and represent a small minority of the many ethnic groups making up El Campo. The Chinese were among the first in El Campo to plant rice. The Hispanic influence has always been here even before Prairie Switch, with the Mexican "Vaqueros" herding cattle. Gene Benavidez's first loan was from the bank. His grandfather lived in Victoria, and rode the train every Saturday to Prairie Switch. The black man, Clarence Young, was a familiar face at the bank for many years doing maintenance work. The bank is proud to have supported these businesses and persons for nearly a century.
